Top States in Economic Growth

Top States in Economic Growth
Growth by state, YTD through Q3 2025. Source: BEA.gov

I recently posted a fun fact that admittedly surprised me: the fastest growing states YTD through Q32025 (the latest period through which we have state-level data) were MA, NY and CT. I wasn't trying to make a political comment - but thought it was interesting that despite all the volatility at the federal level we were continuing to execute in this region.

But alas, a new friend on twitter with the handle "FascistX" took issue with my my analysis after I told him Fascists suck at math (I know I'm not supposed to engage, but sometimes I get bored and can't help myself). He then wished I'd get cancer and die, so I've got that going for me, which is nice (you can enjoy his comment in full at the bottom of my original post as well as captured below, just in case he comes back and deletes it).

Anyway, I'll just make this easy and open source the math. Below is the full spreadsheet with data, and then an image I hope you'll share broadly.

Top 5, Bottom 5

State Growth State Growth
Massachusetts2.99% North Dakota0.59%
New York2.63% Wyoming0.56%
Connecticut2.62% Oregon0.45%
Indiana2.61% Maine0.34%
Kansas2.57% District of Columbia-0.31%

The fact is, the CT economy added over $7b in GDP (in real terms; nominal would be higher) in 2025 through Q3. That is already over 2.5x what we added in all of 2024.

Connecticut is back, and if trolls on the internet take issue with that, I must be doing something right.
